A black father was ferociously beaten in Seattle by a woman's brother whom he had spent the night with. The suspect hurled the 'N-word' during the brutal attack.
DeShawn Horne, 26, is unconscious and clinging to life in a hospital after authorities say Julian Tuimauga, 18, attacked him with an aluminum baseball bat on January 20.
Horne's mother, LaDonna Horne, is shocked it happened to her son within her diverse community. 'You just never think it's going to happen to you or so close to home,' the victim's mother, LaDonna told the Seattle Times.
'I was just telling someone, 'It's different out here. Everybody gets along. It's so diverse.''
Meanwhile King County prosecutors charged Tuimauga with malicious harassment, the state's hate-crime charge, as well as first-degree assault.
During a rare Friday night out for DeShawn, a US Postal Worker, met a woman in her 20s at a club in Downtown Seattle.
The pair and another person headed back to her home in the town of Auburn. In the morning she called a Lyft to take DeShawn home to his place about 10 miles away in Kent.
When the driver arrived, Tuimauga appeared in the driveway with the baseball bat.

He asked the driver who he was waiting for and the driver said the sister had called the cab.
Tuimauga went into the house, at some point DeShawn left the home to get into the cab. The Lyft driver later told police Tuimaugua started fighting with him in the driveway.
According to an Auburn police report there was a thump and the driver saw DeShawn fall to the ground after being hit in the head twice.
'This is what happens when you bring black people around here,' Tuimauga allegedly said during the assault.
The driver pulled the car a few doors down and called 911, but, he told cops, the assault continued. He told police he saw Tuimaugua hit DeShawn at least three more times while he was parked.

DeShawn's heartbroken mother has been calling for justice in the attack and keeping people posted on her son's recovery through her Facebook page
A GoFundMe account has been set up for the still unconscious DeShawn who is at Harborview Medical Center and has had several procedures done.
The page was set up by his brother, Obediyah Israel to cover his expenses and provide for his son.
DeShawn is expected to remain in intensive care for another month, according to the page, and will have to spend another month in neurological care, before he can hopefully continue onto rehabilitation.
'As his uncles, we taught him to protect himself,' Ray Jenkens, who isn't a blood relative but considered Horne's family, told the Seattle Times, 'But to be attacked from behind because of the color of his skin.'
'Who can be prepared for that?' DeShawn's uncle Rodney Kind chimed in.
