It’s been over three weeks since Shaun Frank dropped his amazing new single “Addicted“. It features Violet Days and has already racked up almost 300,000 streams on Spotify. The song is one of our favourites and we can’t stop playing it.
Shaun Frank has certainly been building up his career. He is a Canadian DJ who has worked with the likes of Steve Aoki, Oliver Heldens, KSHMR, and DVBBS. He has even done official remixes for The Chainsmokers, Kiesza, and Duke Dumont. Not only that, but he co-wrote The Chainsmokers’ single “Closer”. His connection with The Chainsmokers led to this track, as it was co-written by Drew Taggart, from the duo, Shaun Frank and Violet Days.
We are excited to reveal our exclusive interview with this fantastic DJ. With the release of “Addicted” – which we can’t get enough of – Shaun Frank was more than happy to answer some questions about the song, what his career highlights have been, and what he hopes to achieve in the future.
Hi Shaun Frank, we hope all is well with you. What have you been up to recently?
I’ve been spending some time relaxing and just working in the studio lately. I toured straight for 18 months pretty much, and this is the first time I’ve been able to sort of stop and take a breath.
Your brand-new single is called “Addicted”, can you tell us more about the song?
I heard this vocal by Violet Days about a year and a half ago and could never get the hook out of my head. It’s a simpler song than I’m used to making, which is exciting for me.
It was co-written by Drew Taggart of The Chainsmokers, how did you two get to know each other? And how did the songwriting session go?
Yeah originally, we were working on this song a bit together. We wrote some new lyrics together and some of the guitar melodies. I know The Chainsmokers ever since they asked me to open up for them on their Friendzone tour.
The song features Violet Days, what was it like working with her?
She’s awesome, and her voice is so easy to mix into the song. We haven’t met yet actually! But I’m hoping she comes over to North America so we can perform this song together.
Should we expect a music video or lyric video of the song anytime soon?
Yeah! We are working on a couple cool things for it.
The track follows up previous songs “Upsidedown” and “No Future”, can you tell us more about these songs?
“Upsidedown” was one of my favourite tracks I’ve ever made, it’s the first track in a long time with my own vocals on it. Check out the Live Video I just released!
The latter of these songs got a remix EP, can we expect remixes of “Addicted”?
There are already some great remixes for “Addicted” coming in.
How has the reaction been to “Addicted”, especially when you play it amongst your sets?
First time I played it was at Echostage in DC and it actually went off! I was scared to play it cause it’s a little more chill than the rest of my set, but it was a banger!
What is your favourite thing about touring, and why?
Eating. The best thing about going all over the world is trying the food by far.
You’ve got plenty of upcoming tour dates, including four in Indonesia, how excited are you for these?
Very pumped! Indonesia is such a blast, I’ve had the pleasure of going a few times already. I’m gonna take a few days off in Bali while I’m there.
What can we expect from you in the future? Any more collaborations in the works?
Lots of new music coming up. I’ve got an exciting one coming with Dragonette and Digital Farm Animals from the UK, as well as some other exciting collabs that I can’t talk about yet.
Looking back at your career to-date, what has been your favourite highlights and why?
My [favourite] remix is still the [Duke Dumont] “Ocean Drive Remix” I did, it’s a staple in my live sets, and it just came together so naturally. I have a really cool Crankdat remix coming out soon. Also my Cash Cash – ‘All My Love’ remix is one I just released and am pumped about.
What do you hope to achieve with your music?
I’ve always just written songs from the heart. What I’m feeling in that moment. If my music can make someone related to that feeling, or get someone through a hard time, or help someone celebrate a good time, then that’s what it’s all about.
And, finally, do you have a message for your fans?
Thank you for following my musical journey, I know it twists and turns, but I have the best fans because they never judge me as I change and take risks. Much love!
What a great interview, thank you, Shaun Frank, for taking the time out to answer our questions. We look forward to your future releases, but for now, we shall be playing “Addicted” often.
Make sure you stream and download “Addicted” now. We believe you’ll love it as much as we do.
