Mariah Carey has had many ups and downs in the romance department, but she’s learned from each of her past relationships.
The “We Belong Together” singer was first married to music executive Tommy Mottola, who is 21 years her senior, between 1993 and 1998.
“You might want to picture a child bride. There was a conscious effort to keep me as this all-American, whatever that means, girl. It was very controlled,” Carey claimed to Cosmopolitan in July 2019 about the relationship. “There was no freedom for me as a human being. It was almost like being a prisoner.”

Following her divorce, Carey moved on with Nick Cannon before they tied the knot in 2008. Carey and Cannon, who share twins Moroccan and Monroe, eventually split in 2016. Two years later, Carey accepted a short-lived proposal from Australian businessman James Packer.
