OCHO RIOS, Jamaica (CelebrityAccess) — The cruise ship Carnival Magic, which is currently hosting the Shiprocked Concert, suffered damage while docking in high winds at Ocho Rios, Jamaica.
A rep for Carnival Cruise Lines told USA Today that the ship made contact with a pier due to high winds and swells, causing the pier fender to collapse under pressure.
“There were no injuries, and all the ship’s services remained operational,” the rep told USA Today, adding that the ship was forced to withdraw from the dock for safety reasons after the collision, leaving some guests stranded on shore.
“The ship left the area for the safety of everyone on board, later docked at another nearby pier, and guests who went ashore rejoined the ship,” the rep stated.
The extent of the damage to the ship was unclear, but images shared on social media appear to show multiple buckled hull plates near the waterline where the ship made contact with the pier.
Carnival Magic had arrived at Ocho Rios ahead of schedule due to inclement weather in the region and skipped a planned stop at Grand Cayman due to the weather conditions
The ship, which departed Miami on Sunday, is currently hosting the six-day Shiprocked high seas music festival. The event’s lineup includes I Previal, Killswitch Engaged, Beartooth, Highly Suspect, and Badflower, among others.
