Mexican singer and actress Thalía (full name Ariadna Thalía Sodi Miranda) is celebrating her birthday in style. The beautiful 51-year-old posted a "happy birthday" snap on Instagram, looking stunning in a multicolored swimsuit. How does she stay so fit? Thalía says there is no magic formula for her gorgeous looks—she simply sticks to the basics. "It's a life filled with discipline, exercise and a healthy diet," she says. "Everything that's boring!" Discipline might be boring—but it's the foundation of a healthy lifestyle, experts say. "By practicing self-control, we can build up our willpower just as we build up fitness by exercising," says Catherine Moore, Psychologist, MBA.

Thalía enjoys grilled protein—especially chicken—vegetables, and rice as part of a balanced and healthy diet. "A diet that's high in protein can help lower blood pressure, decrease your risk of developing diabetes, help you lose weight and build muscle," says registered dietitian Nicole Hopsecger, RD, LD.

Thalía eats avocados every day, and even uses it as part of her beauty routine. "As a Mexican born and raised in my land, avocado is part of our DNA," she tells HOLA! USA. "It is part of who we are, our home, and our growth. It is also part of my health, wellness, and exercise lifestyle, and that has been a perfect connection with Avocados from Mexico. I eat avocado every day. I eat it with a toast for breakfast with lemon and salt. I also use it on my hair and my face. The avocado is a fabulous multipurpose for me… I'm always looking for a way to implement fruits, vegetables, and good protein in my diet. And since avocado has almost everything and is so rich and beneficial, that even cutting it into slices and drizzling it with olive oil and serving it with eggs is perfect. I also make avocado in smoothies, and it's tasty."

Thalía likes to start her day with a simple breakfast of corn tortillas, beans, and a protein. "Legumes, also known as pulses, are a food group that consists of beans, lentils and garbanzo beans. They help you maintain good health because they're packed with plant-based protein and fiber and can lower your blood sugar and cholesterol," says integrative medicine physician Irina Todorov, MD.

Thalía tends to stick to light dinners, and will enjoy oatmeal, apple, and low-fat milk in the evenings. "Of all the meals, dinner and being organized at the end of the day often seems the most challenging. But it doesn't have to be," says Dr. Sandro Demaio. "It's perfectly healthy to keep our dinners light and simple — in fact there is even some evidence that eating smaller evening meals can help us maintain a healthier weight and reduce our risks of diseases like type 2 diabetes."
