She’s an actress and singer, with close to 20 acting credits to her name, while she’s probably known best for her portrayal of Sara Hill in the hit crime comedy series “Good Girls”. It was created by Jenna Bans, starred Christina Hendricks, Retta and Mae Whitman, and follows three suburban mothers who have realized that they’ve lost power in their families; the series aired from 2018 to 2021, and won one of the two awards for which it was nominated.

Early life, parents and education

Lidya was four years old when she was adopted from an Addis Ababa orphanage by an American couple, and she thus moved to the USA and received American citizenship. Lidya hasn’t shared any details concerning her parents with the public, but it’s known that they have three biological children: daughter Isabelle Jewett, the American soldier Connor Jewett and another son Maclain Jewett. The family moved to Miami, Florida when Lidya was eight years old.

Lidya made her debut film appearance in the critically acclaimed 2016 biographical historical drama “Hidden Figures”, directed by Theodore Melfi, and which starred Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer and Janelle Monae. It follows several female African-American mathematicians who worked at NASA during the first US Space programs; the movie won 37 of the 134 awards for which it was nominated, including three Oscar nominations.

Lidya played Lina Annan in the 2017 hit family drama “Wonder”, and the following year saw her appear as Young Nakia in the action science fiction adventure “Black Panther”. Written and directed by Ryan Coogler, it starred Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan and Lupita Nyong’o, and follows T’Challa, the heir to the throne of the secret kingdom of Wakanda, who has to lead his people but also face an enemy from his past; the movie won 118 awards, including three Oscars for Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures (Original Score), Best Achievement in Costume Design and Best Achievement in Production Design, while it was nominated for 280 other awards.

A couple of Lidya’s following roles were in the 2018 action adventure drama “The Darkest Minds”, the 2020 family comedy drama “Feel the Beat”, and the 2021 animated adventure comedy “Vivo” (voice role).

Most recently, in 2021 she played the lead character Yasmin in the family fantasy horror “Nightbooks”, directed by David Yarovesky, and which also starred Winslow Fegley and Krysten Ritter. It follows a boy who loves to listen to scary stories, and because of this has been kidnapped by an evil witch from New York City.
